Stevens Towing Company recently launched one of Marine Travelift's largest boat lifts in the Southeast. The 70' high by 87' wide ship transporter is capable of lifting 820 tons and barges up to 60' wide.
The construction of the marine lift took several months.
Yonges Island, S.C.-based Stevens Towing said the new lift will greatly benefit the growing Charleston shipping and maritime industry. Stevens Towing provides repair services for vessels across the East Coast, including the Port of Charleston, which was recently deepened to 52' to allow the passage of larger ships.
“This is a huge accomplishment for our business, and will help us continue our legacy of providing good jobs and supporting the maritime industry here in Charleston," said Stevens Towing President Johnson Stevens.
The lift was made possible through a $1.38 million grant awarded last year from the Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration.
