Derecktor Shipyards, Mamaroneck, N.Y., recently announced it has been selected by CREST Wind (a joint venture between U.S.-based Crowley and Denmark-based ESVAGT) to construct a Chartwell-designed daughter craft. The catamaran will be carried by CREST's service operations vessel (SOV), currently under construction for Dominion Energy's Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project.

A prepared statement from Derecktor noted the multihull daughter craft offers superior seakeeping performance and increased stability to provide a comfortable, safe and workable platform to Siemens Gamesa's operations & maintenance workforce. The vessel will provide personnel and equipment transfers between the SOV and offshore wind turbines.

The vessel will be dual certified by the U.S. Coast Guard under subchapters T and L; a first for Derecktor, CREST, Chartwell, and the USCG's Sector New York Officer in Charge Marine Inspection (OCMI).

The 40’x13.75’x2’ vessel can accommodate two crew and eight passengers. Propulsion comes from twin Volvo Penta IPS D6-500s.

"Our team is proud of this project and ready to dive in. Significant effort and collaboration with the CREST team got us to this point and our talented production team is ready to bring it home,” Erik Derecktor, Commercial Manager - New Construction, said. “We are excited to support the maritime sector's energy transition, from hybrid and electric vessels to the offshore wind fleet."
