The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New York District, has awarded a $32,334,175 contract for the Maintenance Dredging of Newark Bay to Donjon Marine Co.
This important project aims to maintain the navigational channels of Newark Bay for the safe and efficient movement of commercial shipping and maritime activities. The maintenance dredging will restore channel depths, preventing shoaling that can create navigational hazards and disrupt shipping operations. This work supports the Port of New York and New Jersey, one of the busiest ports in the United States, ensuring continued facilitation of international trade and commerce.
By keeping the channels clear, the project will help sustain the economic vitality of the region, which depends significantly on maritime commerce. Newark Bay is a part of the Port of New York and New Jersey’s extensive waterway network, offering access to key terminals that manage millions of tons of cargo annually.
The maintenance dredging project underscores the commitment to preserving the functionality and safety of these critical maritime pathways, ensuring that the port remains competitive and capable of supporting future economic growth.
