Arctic Storm Management Group (ASMG), Seattle, Wash., took delivery last month of their new trawler-processer, Arctic Fjord. The 324’x69’x28.5’ Jones Act-compliant vessel is optimized for catching Alaska pollock in the Bering Sea.
Arctic Fjord was designed by Norwegian-based Kongsberg Maritime and built by Thoma-Sea Marine Constructors, Houma, La.
The newbuild is set to replace a 50-year-old vessel in the fleet. ASMG states that the Arctic Fjord is outfitted with systems designed to optimize both efficiency and environmental performance and to reduce noise and vibrations.
The vessel accommodates 152 crew members and processing personnel. The holds can store just over 43,000 square feet of fish products, including fish meal and fish oil.
The vessel's main propulsion comes from a 9,655 hp Bergen engine driving a Kongsberg Maritime Promas Innoduct 13.75’ propeller. It has a bollard pull of 110 tonnes and tops out just over 19 knots. The trawler also has a 4,827 hp Bergen auxiliary engine, a Kongsberg Maritime tunnel thruster, and a range of Kongsberg deck machinery.
The electronics suite consists of a Kongsberg Discovery package, including an SN90 multibeam sonar capable of locating schools and individual fish, an ES80 sounder system capable of detailed fish inspections, and FX80 live camera and DFS75 gear monitoring systems that show how nets are deployed and that verify the catch in real time.
Accommodations include 48 crew cabins with shower facilities, an onboard hospital, a mess hall, galley, and lounges. All crew spaces have WiFi and IP TV connectivity.
