ABB has completed its acquisition of Norwegian marine automation specialist Hoglund AS, the companies announced Wednesday.
The transaction closed Sept. 1, roughly two months after the two sides announced the agreement on June 26. ABB said at the time that the deal was expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, subject to customary regulatory approvals. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The purchase covers Hoglund's global operations and its 85 employees in Norway, Poland, Romania and China. Hoglund, which is headquartered in Tonsberg, will be folded into ABB's Marine & Ports division. The company was previously owned by Eitzen Group.
At the center of the deal is Hoglund's Integrated Automation System, a modular and scalable platform now installed aboard more than 600 ships. The system pulls together data from engines, generators, and cargo systems to support safety, energy efficiency, and operational performance.
The IAS is built on ABB's own control system hardware, specifically ABB's 800M and S800 platforms, according to the companies' June announcement.

Saara Kuusisto, global business line manager for marine systems in ABB's Marine & Ports division, said the combined operation would broaden what the company can offer shipowners.
