The U.S. Coast Guard has officially retired its Homeport web portal as of April 12, 2025, marking the end of a platform long used by mariners, vessel operators, and the wider maritime industry to access a range of mission-critical services and information.

Homeport served as a centralized hub for safety alerts, port security updates, Area Maritime Security Committee (AMSC) information, and various compliance tools. But rising maintenance costs and aging system architecture have prompted the Coast Guard to sunset the platform in favor of more secure, modernized alternatives, the agency said in a press release.

“To protect the nation’s Maritime Transportation System, we are transferring Homeport functionality to more secure information systems,” the statement said.

Rear Adm. Wayne Arguin, Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy, acknowledged Homeport’s legacy. “We recognize that Homeport has been a trusted tool for mariners and the broader maritime community,” Arguin said. “We are committed to keeping these users informed and providing alternatives to the functions and information Homeport provided as we transition.”

The Coast Guard said temporary workarounds are in place to ensure continuity of service while new tools are rolled out. In the interim, the agency has launched a Homeport Solutions & News site to serve as the main resource for updates and guidance during the transition.

While the move away from Homeport represents a significant shift for the industry, the Coast Guard has stated its intent to make the process as smooth as possible for users who rely on the system for daily operations and regulatory compliance.
