The 50’x20’ towboat Miss Peggy was raised from the Houston Ship Channel, after one crewman died July 19 when the boat capsized after a possible collision with a passing ship, according to the Coast Guard and local news media.

Five people were aboard the Miss Peggy when it flipped over just before 3 p.m. in eastern Harris County, half a mile from the Lynchburg ferry landing.

Good Samaritans were credited with helping to recover four crew from the water, as Coast Guard boats, a helicopter and the Harris County dive team continued to search for the missing crewman, according to the Coast Guard and Harris County sheriff’s department.

The deceased crewman was located Saturday and salvage was underway Sunday for the towboat, owned by Houston Fleeting Services, a division of Ingram Marine.

The Coast Guard was investigating the accident. On his YouTube channel, maritime historian Sal Mercogliano of What is Going on With Shipping? noted that AIS data showed the Miss Peggy was near the channel edge as the 656'x106' bulk carrier Yangze 7 was passing close by, suggesting it may have capsized from that encounter.
