Manson Construction Co. recently highlighted a retrofit project on their cutter suction dredge H.R. MORRIS.
The dredge was towed to their Seattle yard, where Manson’s yard crew and marine equipment team removed the main pump, A.C. wound rotor motor, and liquid rheostat. A LinkedIn post from the company noted that the crew then installed the latest dredge pump and dredge pump drive technology.
The new system includes 6,000-hp A.C. permanent magnet motors with state-of-the-art variable frequency drives that power a GIW pump. Manson noted it worked with Hagler Systems to select the new pump.
Manson stated these upgrades will enhance the dredge's performance capabilities and reduce emissions by more than 30% while powered by their onboard diesel generators.
The company stated that “H.R. MORRIS remains among a small group of electric dredges that can produce zero diesel emissions by plugging into shoreside power, bolstering green practices and sustainable energy.”
The new system was tested the previous week in their Seattle yard. In the coming weeks, the H.R. MORRIS will head to California.
