BRIX Marine has unveiled its latest addition to the LabCat portfolio, the 3011-CTC research vessel custom-built for Pacific Whale Foundation (PWF) in Wailuku, Hawaii.

The 30'x11' Kaiao marks a significant milestone in pursuing marine research, conservation, and education, while aligning with Pacific Whale Foundation’s mission to protect and preserve vulnerable species of whales, dolphins, turtles, and coral reefs in the Hawaiian waters.

Founded in 1980 and based in Maui, Hawaii, the PWF is a non-governmental organization that has been at the forefront of whale research and public education, striving to safeguard the marine environment and prevent the destruction of Humpback whale populations and other aquatic species in the region.

Kaiao boasts an aluminum hull construction that is designed for both durability and environmental consciousness throughout its lifespan.

Powered by twin Suzuki outboard engines, Kaiao promises exceptional performance, enabling smooth and efficient operations in the Hawaiian waters. To facilitate marine research and observation, the vessel is equipped with cutting-edge equipment, including a Garmin radar system. Furthermore, the addition of a viewing platform, a drone launching/landing platform, and a bow pulpit underlines BRIX Marine’s commitment to providing Pacific Whale Foundation with a comprehensive marine research tool.

Kaiao can accommodate up to eight crewmembers, ensuring a seamless collaboration among researchers, scientists, and educators aboard the vessel. The vessel’s spacious design and advanced equipment will empower the PWF team to conduct in-depth studies and educational programs, furthering their mission to protect and conserve marine life.

PWF will use Kaiao for many vital initiatives, including marine research, wildlife observation, educational tours, and conservation efforts, amplifying their efforts to preserve the delicate marine ecosystem in Hawaii. This vessel will serve as a beacon of hope for vulnerable species, symbolizing the dedication of both BRIX Marine and Pacific Whale Foundation to safeguarding marine life for generations to come.

“As an organization deeply committed to making a positive difference in the world, we are honored to have partnered with Pacific Whale Foundation in crafting the remarkable Kaiao,” Perry Knudson, managing director at BRIX Marine, said in a statement announcing the delivery. “Our collaboration with PWF exemplifies our vision of supporting noble causes through advanced marine technology, and we are proud to contribute to their mission of marine conservation.”
