Moose Boats, Vallejo, Calif., has delivered its M2-36 model catamaran to the Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol. This new vessel is designed to serve multiple functions, including law enforcement, fire response, and emergency medical services, operating throughout the Santa Barbara harbor and coastal waters.
The M2-36 is equipped with twin 300-hp Suzuki outboard engines, paired with contra-rotating dual stainless-steel propellers. The vessel is also outfitted with a Volvo Penta diesel engine, powering a firefighting system capable of delivering up to 1,500 gals. per minute through two TFT monitors, handline discharges, and a 5” large supply discharge. These features make the M2-36 an efficient fireboat, ready to respond to maritime fire emergencies.
To ensure operational effectiveness in all weather conditions, the pilot house of the M2-36 is thermostatically controlled, enhancing both patient care and crew comfort during extended operations.
According to Nathan Alldredge, Harbor Master for the Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol, the Moose Boat "will provide the Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol with an ideal platform geared towards marine law enforcement, emergency medical response, ocean rescue, marine firefighting, search and rescue, and emergency towing operations."
The Harbor Patrol is responsible for emergency response across a broad area, including the city's harbor, marina, beaches, and wharf. The patrol’s jurisdiction also covers the near coastal waters of the Pacific Ocean, from Santa Barbara Point to Loon Point and out to three miles offshore. In addition, mutual aid and rescue operations extend the Harbor Patrol’s operational range to Coal Oil Point, Rincon Island, and out to 12 miles in the Santa Barbara Channel.
The M2-36 catamaran marks a significant addition to the Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol’s fleet, enhancing its ability to respond quickly and efficiently to a wide range of maritime emergencies.
