Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., has partnered with nearby Ingalls Shipbuilding to provide tuition assistance benefits to eligible employees through the Center for Online Learning.
Pascagoula, Miss.-based Ingalls is the largest military shipbuilding company in the U.S. and a provider of professional services to partners in government and industry.
Spring Hill will extend preferred tuition benefits (10% discount and payment deferment) to eligible employees of Ingalls through the company’s pre-approved education assistance program. Eligible employees who meet admissions criteria for the online degree program will receive the preferred tuition benefits.
“We are extremely excited about this partnership. Ingalls Shipbuilding has an outstanding education assistance program, which provides up to $5,250 per year towards their education,” Patrick Sprague, director of operations for Spring Hill’s Center for Online Learning, said in a statement. “Ingalls is offering its employees the opportunity to further their education and career goals. The flexibility of our online degree and certificate programs allows them to take classes at their own pace and provides the guidance and support necessary to ensure that they become graduates of Spring Hill College.”
Now, with the partnership in place, when Ingalls employees choose Spring Hill College, tuition is discounted and they are able to defer the cost of classes until after classes are completed. This makes going to college more affordable.
“This partnership not only encourages our employees to enhance their skills and knowledge in their current position but also allows Ingalls to invest in the developmental growth of our employees, further creating a shipyard where the best ideas and technology can be leveraged to meet the needs of our customers,” said Ingalls Shipbuilding training representative, Sherry Joubert.
The college will also work with select departments to host virtual lunch and learn events.
