Incat Crowther has announced its design of the recently delivered 79’ passenger fast ferry for Caribbean operator Smith's Ferry Services. The vessel was built by Aluminium Marine, Brisbane, Australia, and will transport a maximum of 149 passengers between the U.S. Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands.

The ferry is powered by two MAN 2862 LE454 EPA Tier 3-compliant diesel engines, each rated 790 hp. An Incat Crowther statement said these engines allow the vessel to reach speeds up to 28 knots.

According to Incat Crowther, the ferry was designed for operational flexibility and passenger comfort. The main deck accommodates 118 passengers in an air-conditioned cabin and includes a service kiosk, two bathrooms, and luggage storage. The upper deck features outdoor seating for 40 passengers.

The vessel was built to comply with both U.S. Coast Guard Subchapter T requirements and the Small Commercial Vessel (SCV) Code, allowing it to operate in Caribbean waters. The ferry was shipped from Australia to the U.S. Virgin Islands and entered service earlier this year.

WorkBoat reached out to Incat Crowther for further specs on the vessel.
